Simpsons episode banned from UK tv?

I was just researching one of my favorite Simpsons episodes, looking
for a particular quote.

To my surprise I read that the episode in question, The Cartridge
Family is banned in the UK, supposedly because: "handguns are banned
in the UK because of the Dunblane shootings, so showing guns would be
considered distasteful."

Is this true?

In the episode, Homer buys a gun to protect his family, and I'm sure
you can imagine how it turns out. I'm having a hard time believing
this is true, because the episode is an extremely funny satire on the
American gun culture. Just curious.

Oh, and if anyone has seen this show, could you help me with the quote
I was looking for? Although there are many funny quotes from the
episode listed on the site, the one I wanted was not there. The quote
was from either Krusty or Moe, when the NRA was having a meeting at
Homer's house and everyone is appalled when Homer uses his gun to turn
off the light. They tell him that it was not a proper use of his gun
and that "guns are for ______ and for keeping the King of England out
of your face." I can't remember the first part. Was it "opening your
beer"?

Not strictly relevant to a *British* comedy group, but thank you for that
link - I'm going to be spending quite a lot of time there in future!

BTW, they showed the 'Tony Blair' episode in Australia last week (Mr. Bean
indeed!)

It has been shown on both BBC2 and SKY1. However, it's not repeated as often
as some of the others.
I seem to remember that when it was scheduled to be shown, there was some
form of "incident" and was replaced by a less controversial episode.
Strange really, 'cos there are plenty of other episodes where at least on of
the characters uses a firearm of some description.

It has been on at least six times, on the BBC, with their stupid repeat
schedule. Just when you thought they were showing new ones, old ones are
back again. I'm looking forward to Channel 4 taking over.

I wish BBC2 would keep it but actually show new episodes. When C4 takes over
we'll have to watch it with adverts (noooooooooooooooooooo!) Still, I'm
getting fed up with BBC2 showing the same few over and over and over and
over......

But isn't watching it with adverts recreating the spirit of the original
broadcasts?

Not entirely because there'll only be one commercial break, not three as
with the Fox broadcasts :)

To be honest, I don't give a shit. I like watching TV programmes
uninterupted!

Absolute nonsense.

On the other hand, the episode where Homer jumps a gorge on Bart's
skateboard was, I believe, slightly edited by the BBC because Homer's
fall down the cliff was deemed too violent.

Remember that in the UK broadcasters (and many similarly unintelligent
viewers) consider The Simpsons to be a children's series.

Most so-called "banned" TV material is nothing of the sort. It's almost
always that a broadcaster has decided against showing it (as opposed to not
being allowed to) and that was the case with this episode. Sky had the
exclusive UK broadcast rights to The Simpsons at the time (being affiliated
with Fox) and they decided it wouldn't be prudent to show it in its usual
time-slot because it was aimed at children. The episode has sinced aired
many times in the UK but later in the evening and is also available to buy.
